Bike Camping in the Whacky Wilds of Brooklyn Take 2
Primary tabs

Oh no! We have no more spots left! Should you wish to be put on the waiting list please email elyssa.respaut@gmail.com.
Enjoy the crackling of a campfire and sleep under the New York City sky in a park that was NYC's first municipal airport. Join us on an overnight bike-camping trip in Brooklyn. This overnight trip starts in Brooklyn, at the Grand Army Plaza at 11AM, and meanders down to Floyd Bennett Field where the leaders will set up the provided tents for the night. Bring a bagged lunch Saturday as we won't be stopping until we get to the campsite.
We’ll have the afternoon to explore & you'll forget you're in a city as you listen to the waves crashing against the beach near the campsite, enjoy the warmth of the campfire and gaze towards the starry night sky (or maybe a random 747- ya never know!).
In the morning you can enjoy free kayaking (the best way to see Jamaica Bay and inlets) from 9 until 11am. For those not drawn to the ocean the airfield of Floyd Bennett is great for exploring. Exploring the large community garden known as Eco-Village, wandering to Dead Horse Bay or discovering other Urban treasures are available options, based on group consensus.
We will pack up and leave at noon to bike down to Tacoway Beach Taco’s on Rockaway Beach, Queens. After an enjoyable lunch we will trace our way back through Brooklyn to Grand Army Plaza where the ride will end.
While this is a nice easy speed, 10-13 mph, it is only for those who are comfortable riding (and have ridden before) with items on their bikes. If you are uncomfortable or have never ridden with bags please look for rides to teach you these wonderful skills.
Bring $ for lunch at Tacoway, a spare tube, lock, sunscreen, water, bug spray, a spare pair of clothes, front & rear bike lights, sleeping bag and pillow. The tents, a dinner of hotdogs & veggie burgers, as well as cereal & coffee for breakfast are included in the cost.
Notes:
- We recommend you bring bike lights or a flashlight for around the campsite.
- We are camping so if you want electronics to get charged you will need to bring an external battery.
- If you have dietary restrictions please let us know, we will try to accommodate as much as possible.
- The tents, multi-person, will be provided by your leaders. There are showers at the campsite opening at 8am.
- Tacoway is CASH only
- Rain doesn’t cancel the trip, keep your fingers crossed the weather is beautiful & pack accordingly.
The early-bird rate is $40 per person! After March 13 the cost goes to $50 per person. Only 10 spots on this trip!
