Maintenance and Repair 101 class at Queens College

Cost -- $10 which includes 2 Pedro tire levers and one tire valve adapter as well as morning coffee, tea and donuts, paper towels and hand cleaner.

Curriculum

  • Bike Fix and Maintain resources: books, web sites, You Tube
  • Why 3 basic bike types and hybrid variations?
  • Pre-ride bike check and the why do them?
  • How do you custom fit the bike for you to be comfortable, have power, and speed?
  • Change the front tire! What are some easy and fast techniques, tools? Why change a certain way? You will hear more than you may want to know about tires and rim.
  • Partner best way to remove the rear tire. Arguments for flipping the bike or not when solo.
  • How do you adjust cables for brakes and shifters? Front and rear derailleur adjustment and changing brake and derailleur cables is Bike 102 class.
  • How often do you clean the chain and how are some ways to do clean the chain? Chain link repair and replace chain is Bike 102.
  • What is your bike fix motivation? Hobbyist or rider or how much of each?
