Ft. Totten Private Tour of Civil War Battery
Primary tabs

Please join us on this Sunday funday adventure as we ride to Ft. Totten visitor's center for a private tour of the water battery and ammo room. Built in 1862, Fort Totten is a Civil War era fort located in northern Queens, near the Throgs Neck Bridge across the water from Fort Schuyler in the Bronx. The two forts sit where the East River and Long Island Sound meet, and the idea at the time was that any invaders approaching from the Sound would be prevented from entering the East River for an attack on NYC. This is a fascinating tour not to be missed!
We will be riding on many greenways, by Little Neck Bay, up the Joe Michael's mile into Ft. Totten for this private tour. We will have lunch and ride continues through Jamaica Estates to Captain Tilly Park, which has a natural pond located in a depression caused by a receding glacier. The pond contains a bird sanctuary and is known as the smallest island in the smallest natural body of water.
This will be a moderate-lite ride. Please be able to maintain 12 mph on the greenways.
