We celebrate the birthday of MLK on Monday, Jan 16th - this day commorates the life and work of Dr.Martin Luther King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American Civil Rights movement.  We are encouraged on this day to reflect on the principles of racial equality and nonviolent social change encouraged by Dr. King.

We will loop around the Ridgewood Reservior, ride by Weeksville Heritage Center - a historic site and cultural center in Crown Heights and is one of America's first free black communities during the 19th century; it is one of the few remaining historical sites of pre-Civil War African-American comunities. 

Lunch will be at The Island Caribbean Restaurant. We then ride by Medgar Evers College, which was named after Medgar Wiley Evers, an African American civil rights leader who was assinated in 1963.  The school is divided into 4 schools: the School of Business, School of Professional and Community Development, School of Liberal Arts and Education, School of Science, and Health & Technology.  We then head to the former home of Jackie Robinson - he was an American professional baseball player who became the first African American to play in major league baseball and was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Jackie was voted MVP in 1949 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
