Kreischerville and KIillmeyers
Primary tabs

In the far reaches of Staten Is the small hamlet of Kreischerville. Once the yellow brick empire of Balthazar Kreischer, whose brick factory was open from 1854 through 1927, the community is now called Charleston. But remains of old Kreischerville still exist. These include the Kreischer mansion, a few rows of iconic workers housing, and an adorable little church that was built for the workers. One icon of Charleston that remains from the old days is Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn. Balthazar Kreischer sold the property to Nicolas Killmeyer in 1855 and it became a tavern and inn. Today the tradition continues with great food, and a wonderful German beer selection. Sitting in the outdoor beer garden is a pleasure.
Along the way, we will see some interesting places such as The Blazing Star Cemetery/Dead Pool. And of course, what would Staten Island be without a hill or two. We will be taking the 10:30 ferry from the southern tip of Manhattan.
