Roadside Repair Class
Primary tabs

Do you like helping other people? Do you want to be able to fix common roadside bike problems, or learn how to fix more of them? This class is a great opportunity to learn from experienced 5BBC volunteers. We'll tell you all about the common problems that occur on most rides, and how to get those riders rolling again! The class is intended for volunteers for the Five Borough Bike Tour or other group rides, or anyone who wants to be more self-sufficient on their own rides. Prior experience changing flat tires recommended but not strictly necessary.
The ride will start at Grand Army Plaza / Prospect Park, and head to an area in the park suitable for instruction. The class will cover:
* re-seating a fallen chain
* how to speed up flat tire repairs, find the source of the puncture, and what to do if you can't find it
* the "Steve Bauman Boot" for rescuing a bike with a torn tire
* repairing minor brake problems
* loose pedals and loose cranks
* how to check a bike for safety after it's been in a crash
* what to pack in your bike bag for helping others
There will be a break for lunch, after which the instructors will provide hands-on training for whatever the participants want to learn, such as spoke adjustment, brake adjustment, tube patching practice, etc. The full syllabus (we might not cover everything on it) is at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LZfFebct_Ud4eCIiwO6u5czTx0iRrMs-eAYv...
BRING - the tools you normally ride with, water bottle, your lunch if you want to stay for the latter part of the course, and your curiosity
