On-The-Fly 0: Jones Beach—Go West To The Sea
Primary tabs

Limited to ten (10) registered 5BBC trippers. Once signed up, you’ll get details.
We’ll start from a LIRR station to a Nassau County Park. The ride proper begins on the Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway. Upon reaching Jones Beach, head slowly to the boardwalks of the western part of Jones Beach Island. Then it comes to a roaring silence, like something from the Twilight Zone, on the new greenway expansion to the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center.
There will be NO food stop. Eateries are likely to be closed. Please bring a sandwich or snack to sustain yourself during the ride.
Note: pace is 12mph maximum in the front and 8mph minimum in the back. We will maintain this, no faster or slower. Remember this is a Happy Face ride.
This will be a Happy Face ride, maintaining a 12 mph max. pace in front and 8mph minimum in the back. However, we’ll cut speed even more, in the presence of pedestrians on the boardwalk. There are lots of cycling signs to reduce speed. Note: be prepared for potential headwinds.
Ride a bicycle in good working condition.
Bad cycling weather cancels. Updates will be given, when needed.
Other stuff: Helmets are required on all 5BBC rides. Dress appropriately for the season. Bring snack and/or sandwich to eat outdoors. Plus bring the usual spare tube, full water bottles, lights, helmet, your mask, when it’s needed (LIRR). Note: bring your bike to cars with the wheelchair symbol—there should be space to stow bike. Bike permits are no longer required. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Prepare. Consider bringing a camera for photos. And one more thing: bring your fun attitude and your love for exploring.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: YOU MUST HAVE AND WEAR A MASK WHEN NECESSARY ON ALL 5BBC RIDES AS INDICATED BY THE RIDE LEADER. THIS RIDE HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF SPENDING SOME PERIOD OF TIME INDOORS. IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE AND JOIN ANY INDOOR ACTIVITY, YOU MUST BE MASKED, VACCINATED AND BRING PROOF OF VACCINATION. ADDITIONALLY, THE 5BBC MAKES NO REPRESENTATION AS TO THE VACCINATION STATUS OF ANYONE ON THE RIDE OR ENGAGED IN ANY ACTIVITY, INDOOR OR OUT. THE RISK INVOLVED IN ANY ACTIVITY ON THE RIDE IS ASSUMED BY EACH INDIVIDUAL RIDER.
