ACME (smoked) Fish Market (Greenpoint) Buying Trip!
Primary tabs

Jonesing for some really good smoked fish products (salmon, whitefish, etc) at a "bon marche" price? Join our trip to Acme Fish, a family owned/operated wholesale smoked fish biz. Signups allowed for 8 riders to participate.
Acme's "Fish Fridays" (the only time they allow retail biz) is for we, the public. It's a bit diff these pandemic days, but still - - such a deal! On bike it's a short and easy hop to Greenpoint Bklyn from our start on the Manhattan side of the 59th St bridge. We'll make a slight detour en route to bike past the ancient glacier rock in Queens (south LIC); just think how far that one moved to this final resting place (NYC/Long Island is a terminal moraine for the glaciers way back when . . .). After ACME we'll swing past a relatively new bakery, with a name that fits right into our transportation mode .. La Bicyclete Bakery. They've wonderful artisinal bread, pastries, coffee, 5 star rated. Play Parisian and grab a fresh baguette for your bike ride home. https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-bicyclette-bakery-new-york and https://www.labicyclettebakery.com/
We return via the Williamsburg Bridge, with a quick stop at Kossars on Grand St, a browse/shop at the Manhattan side's Canal/Forsyth St veggie/fruit vendors, possibly a quick visit to an indoor chinese "supermarket" a block away (bring a lock) before heading north along Allen/1st Ave, to complete the loop at our start on E60th/1st Ave. NOTE: When passing thru Chinatown, we might pair up to split some of those trays or boxes of yummy fresh fruit and such, so also BYO extra plastic bags for making that easy. Plus bring single dollars; it speeds up paying the outdoor vendors. If weather is not auspicious, after Acme we might just beat it straight back to the 59th St Bridge.
No point-drop-sweep; we'll ride as a group. Expect to be back at the 59th Street Bridge by 11:15AM(ish).
BYO carrying capacity for toting purchases, and of course, mask, helmet, bike in good shape, tires pumped up, tube, etc. Please also bring a printed copy or a screen shot of your ACME purchase receipt, to make our pickup faster. [FYI, they pack purchases into a taped, outsized box which like Amazon Prime boxes have way too much air for the contents. Most of us break them open and leave boxes behind for recycling, stashing our purchases into our own carry bags or sacks or panniers.]

NOTE: For Acme Fish Fridays, only online orders are accepted, curbside pickup within a time slot selected when you order (pls pick 9:00AM). Not to worry if all "9AMs" are taken, just put in the nearest available time and it will work fine. And we suggest not ordering at ACME until we check the weather and confirm by Wednesday 9AM that indeed our ride is on. Some showers won't deter us but serious "wet" will. TIP: In the past ACME folks have said that fresh sliced fish is only sold by the full pound.
WARNING: Friends and family might pile on to your shopping list once they hear where you're going! So be prepared to bring back more than just for yourselves.
