Long Island South Shore Plus Winter Version
Primary tabs

Weather for Thursday looks warm in the 50s, so time bring out this almost 40 mile ride. The winter version is a portion of a fun and exciting ride whose longer cousin heads out to Jones Beach in warmer weather. No, Jones Beach on this version.
This is a good winter ride as it offers some relatively light climbing along the Bethpage bike path in the middle of the ride to get you warm, but thereafter is relatively flat. Come join us for a pleasant, scenic and mostly flat ride (other than a long climb in the middle of the ride). Much, almost half, of the ride will be on bikeways with no motor vehicle traffic. Ride meets at the Massapequa LIRR station and is accesible by car or LIRR. Our ride will take us down to the edge of Massapequa and then back on to the Bethpage Bikeway to its end, then on to mostly (but not always) traffic light suburban streets, as we make our way down to other bikeways and inlets before heading back to the start.
Ride starts at about 10:00 AM - a train from the City arrives at 10:05. The ride is an advanced moderate most likely at the lower end of advanced moderate range, where we prefer to ride as a group.
Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food other than to maybe grab water. Also, as the ride starts late, please be sure to eat a good breakfast and have snacks as a lunch stop will also likely be late and very quick. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride. More info will be forwarded later this week to registered riders. Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot. All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
