Verrazano Water Views, Marine Park Salt Marsh & more
Primary tabs

Lets cap the holiday with a ride from Parade Grounds to Bushwick Inlet Park, to the Verrazano path, passing Coney Island & Sheepshead Bay to our destination: Marine Park Salt Marsh and Nature Center. The Salt Marsh consists of hiking trails and is home to many species of birds, butterflies and fish. So much to see! We will explore the inlet where there is a set of wood pilings which are the remnants of the first tide-powered mill in the US, which was used to grind corn, grain & flour for General George Washington's army during the American Revolution. The mill operated until 1889 when it was sold to William Whitney, who used the land to build a country estate for his racehorses. It was later donated to the city. Unfortunately, the historic mill burned down in 1935.
Please be able to maintain 10 mph on the greenway. Lunch will be at outdoors at Knapp Street Pizza and at Uncle Louie G's for ice cream & ices.
