Long Ride: Jones Beach—Go East to the Sea

Repeat of a forty miler survey to the newly expanded bike/pedestrian trail of the Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway, on the eastern end of Jones Beach Island.

 

We’ll start from a LIRR station to a Nassau County Park. The ride proper starts on the Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway. Then head east to newly expanded Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway Shared Path (full name) to Captree State Park & points between, going back.

 

This will be a Moderate Pace ride, maintaining a 12 mph pace. Note: be prepared for potential headwinds.

 

Ride a bicycle in good working condition. 

 

Bring a) MTA Bicycle Permit b) sunscreen AND insect repellant c) snack and/or sandwich, or $ for lunch d) bungee cord to secure bike on train. Plus bring the usual spare tube, full water bottles, lights, helmet, your mask and sanitizer. Summer weather means warm, maybe HOT temps. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Prepare. Consider bringing a camera for photos. And one more thing: bring your fun attitude and your love for exploring.

 

The first 17 (seventeen, count ‘em, 17) people signed up gets an email with further details.

 

Helmets are required on all 5BBC rides. Bring a spare tube. We'll still need to wear a face covering and keep social distance.

 

Ride could be canceled for bad weather; check your email before heading out.

This ride is limited to 12 riders + 2 leaders. Everyone else gets wait-listed. 

 

If you're on the wait list, you will get an email when a slot opens. Important: you must remove yourself from the list (or email the ride leader cyclistxxiii@yahoo.com) if you will not be riding.

 

Note: all club rules apply. If you cannot make the ride, please take your name off the list, so another member can attend, please be courteous.
