Beach Bumming on Dune Road

We Try Again - Head East for Some Long Island Beach Bumming and Scenic Riding
We Try Again - Head East for Some Long Island Beach Bumming and Scenic Riding
Saturday, July 24, 2021 - 09:45

Unfortunately, tropical storm Elsa interfered with our first attemp.  Let's hope the second time is a charm, as we try again

We are hoping to start a new sub-series of the beach bum series, Long Island Beach Bumming.

Take a summer day away from the City and come join us for our first ride in the series.  The ride will meet at 9:45 at the Speonk LIRR train station and will head out east with some beautiful and scenic riding, stopping to enjoy various water views and other special attractions, one of which will be a prolonged beach stop on Dune Road, where riders can go for a swim in the Ocean.  Consider the day a brief vacation away from the City.

Ride is accessible by car or public transportation, as two trains from the City arrive just before 9:45.  The ride is listed as advanced moderate, for distance (40 mostly flat, but potentially windy miles), but pace will be more like advanced moderate light, as we enjoy the sights and time at the beach.

Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up lunch, though we may make a bakery stop in West Hampton on the way back from the beach.  Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride.  Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot.  All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
