Long Island South Shore Plus
Primary tabs

Swoon - to enter a state of hysterical rapture or ecstasy. The weather for the first day of June is supposed to be beautiful, so, after mostly a washout of the weekend, let's use that definition of swoon and swoon into June with a variation on a fun and exciting ride. Come join us for a pleasant, scenic and mostly flat ride (other than a long climb in the middle of the ride). Much, but not all, of the ride will be on bikeways with no motor vehicle traffic. We will meet a little after 10;30 at an easy to reach location on Long Island, accessible by both car and public transportation. Our ride will take us on to the Bethpage Bikeway to its northern end, then on to mostly (but not always) traffic light suburban streets, as we make our way down to other bikeways and inlets before heading back to the start. Depending on weather and time we will head out on the new Jones Beach bike path, which is why we list ride as 45-50 miles. How far we explore the path will be a decision on the ride. One part of the ride Is a true scout where we are exploring and determing what to keep for future rides. So be prepared for a wrong turn or a whoops.
Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride and that the exact start location will be forwarded to those on the ride. Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot. All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
