The Newington-Cropsey Foundation in Hastings-on-Hudson is a little-know gem of a museum that highlights the home and paintings of Jasper F. Cropsey (1823-1900) and other artists of the Hudson River School. His home and studio, Ever Rest, is on the National Register of Historic Homes. Our journey there will cross paths, bridges and time, back to an earlier age.

The Museum director has offered to give us a tour of both J. F. Cropsey’s home and the art gallery founded by his great-granddaughter. The museum also features a lovely garden, where we are welcome to eat our lunch. So bring your lunch! On the way back, if time and weather are conducive, we may stop near mile 27 at the Riverdale Diner for smoothies/ice cream.

This is a ride for people who like hills. Although the ride leader has restrained her enthusiasm for hills somewhat after a very hilly scout, it’s still Westchester, so expect some climbing!

The ride start location, on the UWS, will be sent the day before the ride to the first 10 registrants.

Please make sure your bike is in good working order. Bring your helmet, mask, spare tube, plenty of water, lock, lunch, and an interest in history and art.
