Slavery was a critical part of the economy of colonial New York, and there's no better time like the present to learn how our country's prosperity was based on the stolen labor of Black Americans.  This history/discussion tour starts in the North Bronx at a historical site that used enslaved labor, then goes up into Yonkers to see another slave labor site (yes, we had plantations in NY State) owned by the same family. We'll then visit other Yonkers sites that highlight past city governments' devotion to segregation and discrimination in housing and public education, and check out a neighborhood that had segregation designed into its local street grid.

BRING LUNCH AND SNACKS - we are not going indoors except for bathroom stops. Ride starts near end of subway line in North Bronx - if taking subway to start, be sure to check schedules and work notices at mta.info.

All club COVID rules apply - ride limited to 15 trippers and two leaders. If you cannot attend, please remove your name from the list or email leader so other members can attend.
