Long Island South Shore Plus Winter Version

Bikeways Here We Come
Bikeways Here We Come
Wednesday, March 10, 2021 - 11:00

Spring training continues with this 37-38 mile Long Island ride.  Time to get in some base miles. The winter version is a portion of a fun and exciting ride whose longer cousin heads out to Jones Beach in warmer weather.  No, Jones Beach on this version.

This is a good early spring training ride as it offers some climbing along the Bethpage bike path in the middle of the ride, but thereafter is relatively flat.  Come join us for a pleasant, scenic and mostly flat ride (other than a long climb in the middle of the ride).  Much, almost half, of the ride will be on bikeways with no motor vehicle traffic.  Ride meets near a LIRR station and is accesible by car or LIRR.    Our ride will take us down to the edge of Massapequa and then back on to the Bethpage Bikeway to its end, then on to mostly (but not always) traffic light suburban streets, as we make our way down to other bikeways and inlets before heading back to the start.

Ride starts a bit later at 11:00 AM to allow the day to warm up.  The ride is an advanced moderate where we prefer to ride as a group, so please be able to maintain at least 14mph on the flats.

Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food.  Also, as the ride starts late, please be sure to eat a good breakfast and have snacks as a lunch stop will also likely be late and very quick.  Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride and that the exact start location will be forwarded to the registered riders.  Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot.  All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
