Waterfront, Views, Parks - - and Industry City meandering
Saturday, January 9, 2021 - 09:30

Join us for a smooth, meandering touring cruise along the Brooklyn and Queens western waterfronts (Yo, Manhattan, I'm waving to you!), where we hit parks, views, historic points, have some great photo ops, and lots of steady pedaling. There will not be a lot of stopping, excepting as needed for road rules and traffic, and we aim for consistent/steady pedaling.

Our rewards? Tons of fun, exercise, and fresh air . . . plus . . . a drop-in break for food (and oogling) at Industry City, the 30 acre multi-use campus created out of the former Bush Terminal. It's now a fabulous site with multiple buildings, open air courtyards, food halls, purveyers, art displays, craft/artisan stores, and "Maker" businesses. This will be our "food acquision" stop (with some wonderful exploring thrown in) so bring along plenty of hydration and pocket snacks to tide you over till I.C. Personally, this leader is torn between Maglia Rosa NYC (self service bike repair and showroom with farm-to-table cafe; we're definitely visiting that one!), Yaso Shanghai Street Food (the name speaks yummy volumes!), Avocaderia (all things made of it, of course), and Sahadi's (famed family biz from Atlantic Ave). Check it out:

Ride meets along Kent Ave in Brooklyn (public restrooms right there!) a bit north of the Willie-B bridge, and ends at the bike entrance to the Bklyn side of that same bridge.

Bring the usuals for bike and yourself (snacks, helmet, mask, sanitizer/wipes, spare tubes/pump, etc); plus suitable locking devices for bikes while we are at Industry City. As sunset comes early these days, BYO lights, just in case (who knows, you might even want to stay longer at I.C. for the free live outdoor jazz that evening; ice skating on non-ice, powered by Volvo; or Brazilian Bossa Nova music). All Covid-protective practices will be observed, of course, both as we ride and in visiting Industry City. All bikes fine; FYI one leader is using either a lockable mountain bike with high pressure, urban/slick tires, or an older road bike with older/higher gearing (which is PINK - -so we're well set for visiting Maglia Rosa).

Exact meet location/instructions and GPS/Cue Sheet will be emailed to registered participants (limited by club guidelines to 8 registered riders). Please print/bring the actual cue sheet along with the map of Industry City which we'll email in advance. If you're waitlisted when signing on (there's a pop-up which clearly informs you of status) do keep watching, as you'll get an email when a slot opens for you (there can be a lot of turnover, plus the actual ride listing will not update your status, so watch for those emails). Please remove yourself from the registration or wait lists ASAP if you will not be riding (and email leader srodetis@earthlink.net).

Any changes will be emailed by 7:30AM on ride morning, so check emails before heading out. But weather looks fine for now, so odds are we'll be in luck and it's all "green lights" for us. Dress in layers for the weather, changing temps, and fresh breezes throughout the day.
