RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR - with our 2nd group!
Primary tabs

Join us as we celebrate the start of a much needed New Year. Let's extend our holiday season into 2021 by riding to Howard Beach where some neighborhood residents had a friendly competition with holiday displays to win the Howard Beach "Christmas Crown". A Hamilton Beach resident who won the grand prize in the Halloween decorating contest has his sights set on winning the Christmas Crown with a display of 90,000 lights. And for the first time in 14 years, holiday lights are up on Crossbay Blvd. This day ride will go to a decorated house in Canarsie then to Howard Beach and Hamilton Beach. Lunch will be outdoors, probably at New Park Pizza (family business since '56, reknowned locally for their brick oven pizza, and slices). There are public transit options (the A subway line) near the food stop to duck into in case anyone needs to buzz out early or if weather is not to your taste.
Please make sure your bike is in good working order. Bring helmet, mask, spare tube, hydration, hand sanitizer, and dress in layers for the weather (especially if we're stationery and eating outdoors).
This is a Moderate ride and you must be able to maintain a speed of 14mph (where it's appropriate and we are able to, given street traffic and routing and such) plus be comfortable in city traffic and in riding on varying pavement conditions.
The ride start location and cue sheet will be emailed to the first 8 registrants; FYI, it will be in the vicinity of Prospect Park, with restrooms nearby.
You must be a 5BBC member to sign up for the ride. Please check the site for any updates or changes, plus observe all club and NYC/NYS regulations on COVID safety practices..
Ride might still go out if there's some "weather" starting out; please keep in touch with this ride listing and your email inbox.
