Smith Point TWA Flight 800 Memorial
Primary tabs

UPDATE: unfortunately, I have a home issue that arose this afternoon and must cancel the ride tomorrow. However, there is a possibility the ride will be relisted fir Friday. Check back for further updates.
Come join us for a new variation of this ride on the flat south shore. We ride from Sayville east to Smith Point and the location of the TWA Flight 800 Memorial on part of the barrier islands that includes Fire Island. Some scenic new areas on this 45 or so mile, fairly flat ride ride.
The ride is accessible by both automobile and LIRR. We start around 9:45 but understand the daylight will disappear early. So to be safe bring front and rear lights. Also, the ride is an advanced moderate ride with no real bailouts, so please be able to ride 14mph or better on the flats. Pace on the flats will usually (other than some touring) be faster as an advanced moderate
A caveat: certain parts of the ride are brand new, so the ride is definitely part true scout. Be prepared for a whoops or two.
Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food. Also, as the ride starts late, please be sure to eat a good breakfast and have snacks as a lunch stop will also likely be late. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride and that the exact start location will be forwarded to the registered riders. Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot. All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
