Queens to the Lower East Side + Chinatown

Saturday, October 24, 2020 - 09:00

Join us for a Lower East Side/Chinatown bike tourism ride.  First we have to get there from Queens via Greenpoint Ave (some of it ugly and industrial) and cross the Williamsburg Bridge.  We will ride Delancey Street and Houston Streets, passing Katz on our way through Alphabet City to Tompkins Sq Park.  Wow, gentrification of some of the worst NYC slums!  Other LES highlights: FDR bike path, Corlears Hook, Henry Street Settlement, the Educational Alliance and Forward newspaper building, and Hester/Eldridge/Grand Street 'jobber' section of the LES.

Lunch will be Mott Street Chinatown outdoor dining.  Chinatown highlights include Doyer Street gang wars, Bowery flop houses, and the notorious Five Points (Gangs of NY) near Columbus Park.  We will traverse the Manhattan Bridge on the return.  Back to Queens is essentially Flushing Avenue with sketchy parts of Bushwick with some commercial/industrial sectors before hitting Queens Blvd.
