Exploring the remnants of Brooklyn's Historic Theaters

Between 1920S and the 1950s, Hollywood studios built thousands of ornate movie palaces in cities across the United States. Warner Bros., Paramount, RKO, MGM, and others competed to build the biggest and gaudiest cinematic cathedrals to showcase their big-budget blockbusters. Seating thousands of spectators, the theaters were decorated in a fanciful array of styles, including art deco, art nouveau, and ancient Egyptian.

This 25-mile ride will be making four stops at locations of former movie palaces in Brooklyn.  The criteria to be included was to have some exterior architecture that still exists on the former palaces, even if they have been converted into something else.

The start location will be in the vicinity of Prospect Park.  Exact location, and cuesheet will to be emailed to first 10 registered riders several days before the ride.  All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks, hydration and a bike in good condition.

We will be doing take-out lunch in Bushwick.

REMEMBER:  Rides during the Pandemic are limited to a specific number of riders.  Everyone else gets wait-listed.  Important:  You must remove yourself from the list ASAP if you no longer can make the ride (or email ride leader geoffreymcohen@gmail.com).  Not withdrawing from the ride listing prevents others on the wait-list from participating.  Failure to notify the ride leader in advance that you can't make the ride can result in being restricted from signing up for rides in the future.
