Ride to Five Islands Park in New Rochelle
Saturday, July 18, 2020 - 10:00

Will we find buried treasure? Unlikely, but you never know. In the 17th Century and early in the 18th, pirates raided English settlements on the North Shore of what is now Long Island Sound (then, known in Dutch as 't Lange Eylandt), found a safe haven among the many islands and coves in the Eastern portion of Long Island Sound. Pirate Captain William Kidd, perhaps unjustly accused of such, is rumoured to have buried his treasure in this area, and it's never been discovered. Later, in the 19th Century, whaling companies built ornate mansions for their best Captains in the same area.

We'll ride through the Bronx to get to Pelham Bay Park, and then North along the East Coast Greenway to New Rochelle. We'll buy lunch at a deli (or bring your own, of course), and then relax in the park and enjoy this unique and wonderfully beautiful area.

The ride will start and end in Manhattan; exact location and cue sheet to be provided the evening before the ride.   Please 'unregister' and email rbryan@rickbryan.com if you can not make the ride so wait-listed folks can move up and take the slot.

Please review and adhere to the Five Borough Bicycle Club Temporary Criteria, Rules and Requirements located here: https://5bbc.org/news/5bbc-rides-again-carefully

Please make sure your bike is in good working order.  Bring your helmet, face mask, spare tube, hydration, sunscreen, hand sanitizer and your happy face. And, if you have one, a metal detector to search for the buried treasure!
