Black History Month Celebration
Primary tabs

Please join us as we celebrate Black History Month by riding to Neir's Tavern in Woodhaven for brunch. Neir's Tavern opened in 1829 and is one of the oldest and most historic bars in the country. The movie Goodfellas was filmed here. Neir's has a restored 150 year old mahogany bar & amongst other things, a tribute alcove to Mae West & excellent food!! Loycent Gordon, the owner, born on the Island of Jamaica, bought Neir's 11 years ago and in addition, he is a lieutenant in the FDNY. We had the pleasure of meeting him on my ride there in January.
On our way back we will be going to The Weeksville Heritage Center, which is a historic site in Crown Heights which is dedicated to the preservation of Weeksville, one of America's first free black communities during the 19th century. Within this community, the residents established schools, churches and benevolent associations and were active in the abolitionist movement. Weeksville is a historic settlement of national significance and one of the few remaining historical sites of pre-Civil WarAfrican-American communities. The 45 minute tour begins at 2PM and the cost is $8 ($6 for students & seniors).
This is a happy face ride. Make sure your bike is tuned up. Please dress properly, bring a lock, hydration, your happy face and good attitude. Ride will cancel if inclement weather.
