Breakfast @ IKEA & Back
Primary tabs

Temps will be non-seasonably mild this w/e (can you believe- -58-62 on Saturday) although there's precip forecast as the w/e progresses into Sat. and Sunday. But Sat. morn looks the best, so how about a short ride to IKEA for breakfast? Ride occurs even if some wet pavement, or a little drizzle or spritz; we're not so sweet anyone will melt. And what the heck, it's a short ride, fun stops, and tons of bails.
START: Dunkin at 56 Court Street, Brooklyn, near Borough Hall Park and multiple subway line stations. Be ready to roll out in front at 9:00AM
EXCURSION: Short bike route straight to Ikea, so save your appetites for a yummy (and bon marche) IKEA food court breakfast. That service starts 9:30 AM (1/2 hour earlier than main store) with great noshing on American and Swedish food, plus killer views of lower Manhattan and NY harbor. Exiting via the food shopping area provides a quick escape from the lure of the IKEA retail shopping floor mazes, plus the convenient opportunity to stock up on packaged ethnic takeaways (including packages of Swedish meatballs!). Many bails for those biking back, but regular (and still short) route takes us to a quickie visit to Bike NY's new retail location at Fulton St, then over to the NY Transit Museum main location for a visit.
Pace will be relaxed and conversational. Mostly onstreet riding in quiet areas, with some bike lanes (but traffic typically light that early in the morn). All bike types fine (leader using a clunker mtn bike with rear rack/pannier). Ride as a group, perhaps an occasional point-drop-sweep. Cue sheets emailed to pre-registered riders; pls print/bring.
RETURN: Multiple options, including free IKEA express ferry to Pier 11 Wall Street, or bike 1.5 miles to the Carroll St. subway station. But weather permitting, we will bike to the new retail location for Recycle-A-Bicycle on Fulton St for a short look-see, then visit the Transit Museum inside a vintage, decommissioned subway station (check out http://www.nytransitmuseum.org/ ) right near near our Borough Hall Park area start/finish. If there's good weather, leader will bike back to Manhattan via the nearby Manhattan Bridge bike lane (or head for the subway).
BRING: Dress for the weather and in layers. BYO the usual tubes, pump, flat repair, hydration, lock/cable for entry area bike rack at IKEA, $ for breakfast, purchases, and subway fare if desired; and carrying capacity if you want to bring back stuff.
TIP: Hop online in advance to get a free membership to the IKEA family plan. You'll have free coffee with any visit, plus extra discounts/specials on food and other items. Bring your membership code, a pix of the acceptance or email, and you can get the actual card printed at a kiosk near the food court. https://info.ikea-usa.com/FAMILY/?c
