Jolt of Java: Exploring the NYC Coffee Scene
Primary tabs

Let's learn about coffee together and the exciting NYC specialty coffee scene! Specialty coffee emphasizes quality, direct trade, sustainability, roast profiles, and innovative brewing methods. This bike series will focus on visiting a specialty coffee house during our rides, with an emphasis on roasters based in the NYC region.
For the second ride in the series, we will visit Buunni Coffee, the GWB Bus Terminal location, in Washington Heights. Buunni is an independent neighborhood coffee shop focusing on Ethiopian coffee. Small-batch roasting allows Buunni to fine-tune and customize roasts to draw out the best flavors of each type of coffee bean. You can learn about the Yirgachefe or Sidama regions of Ethiopia. See if you can taste the berry undertones distinct from Yirgachefe coffee or the spicy, berry, chocolate notes from Sidama.
This will be a Happy Face pace (10 to 12 mph), to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace, just like how we drink a good cup of coffee. Even if coffee is not your thing, please join us. This will be almost an out-and-back ride. We'll ride through Hudson River Park, starting at Chelsea Piers, grab coffee at Washington Heights, then head towards the East Village to get food towards the end of our ride, at mile 20. In keeping with Ethiopian, I'm planning to have lunch at Awash Restaurant, if they can accommodate our group. Total miiles traveled will be just under 23 miles.
Rain/snow at start of ride will cancel ride. Check website the morning of ride to see if the ride is cancelled due to weather. Required: helmet, inner tube, air pump, money for food/drinks, lock.
