Save the East River Park Bike Path
Primary tabs

Join NY State Assemblymember Harvey Epstein and your 5BBC friends for a ride on the East River Park Bike Path to call attention to the upcoming closure of this much-used and much-loved transportation and recreation corridor.
Yes, the city is planning to shut down the East River Park Bike Path during park renovation, starting March 2020, for "at least" 3 1/2 years. The community board has already signed off on the city's plan. Alternatives -- like keeping the path open during renovation, even if it has to be moved a few times -- have not been considered. Cyclists who travel in this area will just have to use the streets. For young children and families, for whom the streets are deemed too dangerous? They'll just stay at home.
This is unacceptable.
We will begin our ride at the 5BBC bike repair kiosk, Park Ave S & E 25th St, 1 pm at the conclusion of Summer Streets. Arrive a few minutes before to schmooze with your fellow 5BBCers and with Assemblymember Epstein.
Our ride takes us down 2nd Ave and Chrystie St, across on Grand and Delancey, and then over the FDR Drive to East River Park and its endangered bike path. This short (6 mile) and slow-paced ride should take about 1 hour.
