It was 1968 when a reconnaissance plane organized by Pratt University flew over Bedford Stuyvesant searching for the lost village of Weeksville. And there they found it! A group of houses about to disappear off the map. But it didn't happen. Weeksville was saved!  In 1838, only 11 years after New York State abolished slavery former and freed slaves established the thriving community of Weeksville, containing a school, organized churches, businesses, family houses, and even a newspaper called the Freedman's Torchlight.  Join us as we step back in history to visit those discovered and revived Hunterfly Road houses, the surrounding parcels of land and Weeksville’s dynamic museum.
