The Road to Empanadas
Primary tabs

Some of the best damn empanadas in NYC can be found in the South Bronx at Empanology. Chef Jason Alicea is a graduate of both the Culinary Institute of America and his abuela's kitchen. Empanology's extensive menu includes over 40 rotating innovative flavors including crowd favorites chicken truffle mac n cheese, winter squash and red velvet tres leche. Latin, local and wallet friendly.
Along the way, we stop at some wonderful sites in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. We visit the Jumel Mansion, Manhattans oldest home. We cross to The Bronx over the scenic High Bridge. Once in the Bronx we head north and hit the Hall of Fame for Great Americans [one of NYCs lost treasures], Williamsbridge Oval and the Keeper's House, and finally Poe Cottage. After all that riding, you will have earned whatever empanada you desire. Following our feast, we return to Central Park via Randall's Island.
Note, this is a scout ride - so an occasional "oopsie" may occur, and is all part of the fun of exploration.
BRING: Money for Lunch, Lights [ya never know], spare tube, lock, and a love of The Bronx. If you did not love it before - you will after this ride. Lunch is near the end of the ride so you may with to bring a snack.
