Hook Creek Boogie
Primary tabs

WHILE THE RAIN WILL HAVE STOPPED BY THE START - THE WINDS WILL BE STRONG. OUR WAY OUT TO THE LOCATION IS INLAND AND SHOULD BE OK. THE WAY BACK WOULD HAVE BEEN ALONG THE COAST - WE WILL LIKELY TAKE THE A TRAIN FROM ROCKAWAYS.
Hemmed in by JFK Airport, Hook Creek, the Thurston Basin and fugly Rockaway Parkway are the tiny Queens hinterland settlements of Warnerville [all two unmapped streets of it] and Meadowmere [a four street metropolis]. To get to Meadowmere Park in Nassau County, we cross a scenic footbridge that spans the creek. The area is quiet and remote – and then a plane flies overhead - so close you can read the pilot's name tag. Lunch is at the lovely Bayhouse, the best [only] restaurant in Warnerville. Please register online for the ride.
This ride is for experienced urban cyclists as traffic along Rockaway Parkway and a few other roads is quite gnarly. Bring your sturdy bikes for this one.
Bring – The usual lock, money for lunch, tubes and a sense of curiosity.
Mileage – 40 miles, but there is a bailout point at the A train in the Rockaways
REMEMBER – in case of inclement weather – check the web site or Facebook page for cancellations.
