Legends of Addisleigh Park
Primary tabs

The Addisleigh Park Historic District of St. Albans is the home of legends. The historic district covers 422 houses built between the 1910s and 1930s for white buyers only. That didn't stop Addisleigh Park from becoming a magnet for prominent African-Americans - lawsuits be damned. In 1952, the magazine Our World called Addisleigh Park home to the “richest and most gifted” African-Americans in New York. On one block, you have the home of Babe Ruth [who wanted to be near his favorite golf course], Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis, and The Godfather of Soul, James Brown. As we venture into this area, we will also be visiting the homes of Count Basie, Lena Horne, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and the Queen of Scat - Ella Fitzgerald. We will also cross to "the wrong side of the tracks" and visit the house of Sax great John Coltrane. All of these legends lived mere blocks apart.
Lunch will be late in the ride [after mile 20], and we will stop at 111th Street where there will be several food options including El Campeon de Pollo, a Roti Place and a Pizzeria. But as there is a late lunch - bring snacks. Also bring a good lock, water, spare tube and the normal riding ephemera. Any Jazz fans feel free to bring a soundtrack for the ride. Please register online, and check the web page for any weather related issues.
For those who requested it - the Cue Sheet has been added to this listing.
