At 4:45 PM on March 25, 1911, a fire broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory on Washington Place in Manhattan.   The owners of the factories had locked all of the doors so that their workers couldn't leave during the day, so when the fire broke out everyone was trapped inside.  146 people lost their lives that day, most of whom were young women working hard trying to survive.   Although most workers lived in the East and West Village and SoHo, close to the factory, some came every day from East Harlem, the Bronx, Red Hook, Brownsville, and Bushwick (and one from Hoboken, New Jersey)

This year we'll visit the homes of several people who perished in the fire then travel to the factory, arriving there at 4:45 PM, the time the fire broke out.  Our Bronx group will visit homes in the Bronx and East Harlem, and our Brooklyn group will visit homes in Red Hook, Brownsville, and Bushwick.   The groups will meet at another home in the East Village then we'll ride together to the factory, where our ride will officially end.  I'll unofficially lead a group back to the Prospect Park starting point and Susan will lead a group back to the Bronx starting point after the ride.   PS, bring flowers!
