An Adventure up to a Majestic Mansion
An Adventure up to a Majestic Mansion
Sunday, November 12, 2017 - 09:00

Overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, is Lyndhurst, one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions. Designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis, its architectural brilliance is complemented by the park-like landscape of the estate. Its noteworthy occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. We will start at 9:00am from the Van Cortland Museum House in Van Cortland Park. We will be traveling up the Old Putnam Trail, to the South County Trailway, over to the Old Croton Aqueduct, and up to the Mansion. We will have some time to explore the grounds and beautiful landscapes, before we stop for lunch in Irvington on the way back. The trip is around 25 miles round trip, with the Old Putnam Trail and the Old Croton Aqueduct trail being unpaved. Due to this, this is NOT a good trip for those fancy race bikes, but a commuter or hybrid will have no issues. Bring a lock, spare tube, cash for lunch, and a sense of adventure! This is listed as a Moderate ride due to the unpaved sections, and we will be traveling at around 12-15 on the paved sections.
