Best known for his 1978 autobiographical work The Basketball Diaries and the punk single "People Who DIed", Carroll was born into a working class family of Irish descent and grew up on the Lower East Side. At age 11 his family moved to the Inwood in Upper Manhattan and attended the elite Trinity School. Carroll died in 2009 on Sept 11th while working at his desk on his last novel The Petting Zoo at his home in Inwood.
We will explore the neighborhoods from Carroll's works and career from Lower East Side to Inwood in Manhattan.
