Byram Lake and SW Connecticut

Saturday, October 21, 2017 - 06:30

There aren't many nicer roads to ride than the well-maintained, hilly and winding roads of southwest Connecticut, lined with beautifully landscaped, over-the-top 5,000 sqf homes and tax-dodge horse farms.  This ride covers 73 miles of them (plus 35 miles in Westchester)! It's like riding a roller coaster without rails through an episode of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Not to mention the foliage!

We'll take the South County Trail north and do some climbing in Westchester on Payne, Whippoorwill and around Byram Lake before entering Connecticut.

Rest breaks at 24-, 55-, 79-, and either 87- or 107-mile marks (or all of them, depending on how we feel).  Lunch is in Stamford at 55 miles/3,667' in (allowing an easy bail).  Final departure is also from Stamford, which runs three trains hourly to NYC, including an hourly express that gets to GCT in less than an hour.

Please consider joining us for the first half of the ride and lunch in Stamford!

The full ride is 117 miles, 7,500 feet of ascent.

As this is a Quick Spin, there will be no point-drop-sweep unless something unusual calls for it.  We'll strive to maintain 18 MPH on the (infrequent) flats, and pause to regroup at the top of the longer climbs.
