YES-THE RIDE IS ON TOMORROW!! BUNDLE UP - IT'S A COLD ONE! And not the beer kind.
Meeting point changed: Meet inside at the LIRR ticket counters + Time tables. Worst case scenario: Meet us on the train.
We start the Technical Training Rides Series with a 36.3 mile/+939 ft elevation gain ride through suburban Long Island. The roads will allow us to gain some speed and ride as one group to warm up for the season. Average speed will be 15-16 mph/flat, there will not be the traditional point, drop, sweep, so you will need to have GeoZilla installed on your phone or be good at reading cue sheets.
Average speed: 14-16 mphs on flat. Road bikes only.
Snack Stops: Starbucks at 13.5 mile and 23 mile.
Where we will meet: Penn Station at 31 Street/8 Avenue. Train Time: 9:22 am to Westbury; Atlantic Terminal (Brooklyn) leaves at 9:22 am (change at Jamaica). We meet at the Westbury Station if you come via Atlantic.

What is the Technical Riding Series?
The rides in the Technical Riding Series will focus on specific skills to help the day rider who wants to do multi-day or longer cycling trips. They are designed to help build endurance, while gaining confidence, skills and experience in many areas that are needed for cycling extended distances in a short period of time. Each of the rides offered in this series will have the following.
-
All rides will NOT have LUNCH stops. Instead we have multiple short 20-30 min breaks to quick have a snack, run to the restroom, and get more supplies. There will not be a formal sit-down meal.
-
Moderate pace of 13-16 mph on flats.
We recommend that each tripper comes prepared with the following.
-
Bring plenty of snacks to maintain the carbs you need for these rides. Look for quick release carbs such as sugar based products (honey stingers, gels etc.). Complex carbs (such as granola bars) etc. take longer to break down. Keep up the sugar rush for these rides! Fruit such as apples and oranges help as well.
-
What to bring: Bungee cords, MTA bike pass (buy at Grand Central), 2 spare tubes
