Let's go watch men in funny hats cross a river

Sunday, December 25, 2016 - 09:00

December 25 marks an important anniversary: the day George Washington and the Continental Army stopped losing and started winning.  Ever since the British invaded New York they dealt Washington one defeat after another as they chased him up the Hudson and across New Jersey.  The revolutionaries and their French supporters has begun to doubt that the Continental Army could ever win a fight, but on December 25 1776 Washington turned that all around by crossing the Delaware at night and marching his army through a blizzard to attack the garrison at Trenton.   The crossing is reenacted every year and we are going to see it!

We are going to meet  in the Southwest corner of Penn Station in front of the NJ Transit ticket booths at 9am to make the 9:14 train to Trenton.  We should arrive in Trenton about 10:45.  If you plan to meet us in Trenton please use this page to send a message to the ride leaders so we know to look for you.

Bring the usual: $ for train tickets, bungee cords for the train, water, locks, spare tubes. There is no lunch stop planned so please bring your own lunch.  You will need lights if you are planning on riding home from Penn Station.

Please do your own two minute bike check BEFORE we board the train.  Once we get to Trenton there isn't much that can be done about mechanical problems.

Depending on weather conditions we might ride on dirt trails.
