Sight”riding” through the romantic suburban New Jersey

Sunday, October 23, 2016 - 08:30

Moved it from Saturday to Sunday (who wants to ride in rain?!)

Ride through quiet and secluded Northern Jersey towns of Danville, Booneville, Oakland and Butler.  There are rolling hills, and lots of shade. It is a very scenic route.  We are mainly riding on narrow roads where we are riding single file, and a few major roads where we are carefully riding with traffic.

There is not an official lunch stop.  There are two shorter breaks to refuel and to take a breather: Starbucks (approx. 20 mile) and a Polski Smak, Deli (approx. 40 mile).

It is a shorter ride for October with only 47 miles/2,200 feet of elevation gain.  We are maintaining a speed of 14-16mphs on flat. It is a moderate advanced ride. Be comfortable in climbing hills and maintaining consistent speed of 15+mphs on flats.  Road bikes and touring bikes are recommended.

Bring 2 backup tubes, bungee cord to tie your bike in the train, small lock, and cash for lunch.

Meeting time is 8:45 am at New York Penn Station, corner of 31 Street/8 Avenue (with your roundtrip ticket to Denville in your hand) to board the 9:11 am train to Denville, NJ (Dover Line).  If you are planning to meet us anywhere besides New York Penn Station, please notify the leaders so we can meet up with you.

What to bring:

  • Roundtrip ticket from New Jersey Penn Station to Danville, NJ.
  • Bring bungee cords to secure your bike on the train.
  • 2x spare tubes is a must in this area.
  • Cash for snacks.
