Easy ride on Brooklyn Bike Paths & Lanes

New to Brooklyn or to the 5BBC? Like safe rides with beautiful sites? Enjoy German food & live music?

Whether you are a new member on your first 5BBC ride; or if you consider yourself a hardened NYC bike-pro, you will love this great 17-mile Happy-Face ride around some of Brooklyn's best bike paths and bike lanes. We start in Prospect Park at 10:00 AM and then tour through scenic areas of Gowanus, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Dumbo, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bed-Stuy.

95% of the route is on bike lanes, with many protected bike paths, and beautiful waterfront scenery. We will ride up the Brooklyn waterfront and meander in beautiful McCarren Park. Lunch will be at Radegast Hall for their Oktoberfest party. They will have live music starting at 1PM. The ride finishes back at Grand Army Plaza.

RIDE CANCELLATION POLICY

Ride will only be canceled if their are downpours at 9AM. We will be at Grand Army Plaza at 10:00 AM rain or shine. If there are any serious concerns, will make a determination then. Do check this 5BBC ride page in the morning, just in case; but a cancelation is unlikely.

Ride Type Descriptions

Note: Helmets required for all rides and electronic bikes are not allowed on any rides (pedal assist bicycles are permitted). Additionally, the 5BBC does not permit the use of aero-bars on any of its rides. Failure to comply at any time with the above requirements results in immediate disqualification from any 5BBC ride.

Happy Face Rides: Just starting to get into cycling or perhaps you're nervous about riding in the city? These rides are low mileage and go at a leisurely, slow pace under 10 mph. They may or may not have point, drop, sweep but everyone rides together in a group. Great for beginners!

Moderate Rides: Do you like to cycle and still see the sights? These rides range from 12-15 mph with point, drop, sweep. Suitable for intermediate riders as well as advanced riders who want more of a tour.

Advanced Moderate Rides: Like to challenge yourself without getting so out of breath that you can't carry on a conversation with the cyclists near you? These rides are 15-17 mph with point, drop, sweep. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders looking to see the scenery, but not dawdle.

Quick Spin Light Rides: Feel like you're ready to start really pushing faster? These rides range from 16-19 mph with minimal stops and limited point, drop, sweep. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders who can keep a steady, fast pace for extended periods of time. If this is your first time trying one of these rides, check in with the leader for details and make sure you have a Metro Card, MetroNorth or LIRR pass and bike permit in case you need to drop out.

Quick Spin Rides: Not for the faint of heart! These rides are 17-20+ mph with minimal stops and no point, drop, sweep. Advanced cyclists only need apply.
