RESCHEDULED RIDE AND UPDATE:

With a heat index of 110, intermittent thunderstorms beginning at 2 PM, and no water or bailouts for 40 miles, we'll pass on a very hot ride -- and you should too. Ride is CANCELED.

Join Summer Streets, instead, especially if you haven't already, drop by the 5BBC table and say hi, and then, later tonight, join us for an evening ferry to Jersey City and a Night Glow ride organized by those wonderful folks at Bike JC. And don't forget to bring all those crazy, wild, pulsating, funky lights -- the more the merrier!

Meet Up: World Financial Center dock ($4 weekend fare) for the 7:23p ferry to Paulus Hook in Jersey City. 

RETURN: Last ferry to Manhattan is 9PM, so we'll hitch a ride on Path after a stop at the Zeppelin Beer Garden. (Ride officially ends there.) And a meander along the Jersey City Waterfront, with spectacular views of the harbor. We should be back in the city by 10, 10:30 PM.

This ride begins in  Prineton Junction, not quite the Delaware, but close enough, and travels through tranquil back roads and farmlands. toward Freehold, New Jersey. But unlike previous rides to Freehold that then pick up the Henry Hudson north to Matawan, we'll keep a steady southeastly course to Manasquan, with the last third of the ride on the traffic-free Freehold-Jamesburg Rail Trail that eventually becomes the Edgar Felix Memorial bike path all the way to the Atlantic  We'll have two lunch stops: one halfway just outside Freehold; the other in Manasquan, before we board a train back to New York City. We meet at Penn Station-Amtrak Waiting Area (31 & 8th Avenue, near the escalators) for the 9:14 AM train to Trenton. Those meeting us at Princeton Junction, we'll be arriving at 10:26AM, and will have a coffee and bathroom stop nearby at the Dunkin Donut (Wallace and Rt. 571). Remember: Return is via Manasquan. And we hope to catch the 5:03 PM express back to Penn Station!
