Do you like rolling hills and lakes?  Do you enjoy 64 miles and 3,800 feet of elevation gain along windy rural tree-lined roads?  If so, this is definitely a ride you should not miss.  The highlight is to climb two smallish hills, and as rewarded you can coast downhill for a few miles. The ride leads us through Putnam county and the Taconic mountains.
The lunch spot is early at 23 mile, and another snack snack stop is at 40 mile.  Lunch is at Mohegan Diner & Restaurant, Route 6, Mohegan Lake.  Bring plenty of snacks and minimum of 2 water bottles.

We meet at Grand Central Terminal at 7:30am to catch the Southeast Train to Pleasantville at 7:50am.  You can also board the train at 125 Street. Please, notify any of the leaders to let us know if you are planning to do that.

Don't forget to bring:

  • MTA bicycle pass that you need to buy beforehand at Grand Central for $5 at the counter or online (http://web.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrbikepermit.htm)
  • Off-peak ticket from GrandCentral to Pleasantville.
  • Bring bungee cords to secure your bike on the train.
  • 2x spare tubes
  • Cash for lunch.
  • Small bike lock.

This is an advanced ride.  Road bikes ONLY.  Average speed is 17-19 mph (on flat). Be comfortable with climbing hills. Max grade is 10%.
