Brooklyn's Backbone--Southern Half
Primary tabs

This is a partial reprise of a 2014 ride. It will help you burn the remnants of turkey, latkes and jelly donuts from Thanksgiving and Chanukah, while making more room for Christmas and New Year's fare.
Many moons ago, moving formations of rocks came to rest, creating what is now Long Island. The western part of the island, aka Brooklyn, has long been known for having plenty of backbone. Geology is no exception. A phenomenon known as the terminal moraine is responsible for the high in Highland Park, the heights in Dyker Heights, and many other neighborhoods with similarly themed names. Our ride will include the southern segment of last year's route. We'll ride alongside of, on top of, and occasionally over the moraine as we pass through Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Sunset Park, Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge.
We'll travel at a steady urban cruising pace with pit stops for the rest room, but no lunch stop. To keep the ride moving, riders are requested to bring their own snacks.
