Iron and Chocolate

Sunday, October 25, 2015 - 08:15

We'll start the day by meeting at 8:15 at Grand Central Terminal in order to catch the 8:48 train to Cold Spring (8:58 at Harlem 125th St).  There we will spend some time exploring the remains of the West Point Foundry which manufactured arms for the Union during the Civil War.  After that we'll tackle some gently rolling hills in order to earn our... chocolate!  We'll be crossing the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge on our way to a chocolate show in Newburgh.  The price of a show ticket includes admission to the Motorcyclepedia Museum.  After the show we'll return to Cold Spring to catch a return train.  Shorter and longer ride options will be available.

This is a relatively easy ride but not a happy face ride.  The happy face option would be to take the train to Beacon for a short ride to the chocolate show.  Contact the organizer if you'd like to do this so we know to pick you up in Beacon.

For this ride please bring:

  • The usual spare tubes, water bottles, light locks
  • Your MTA train pass
  • Lights (required if you plan to bike home from the train station, highly recommended otherwise). Sundown is 6pm
  • Appropriate weather gear (keep in mind we'll be spending some time on foot at the West Point Foundry)
  • $ for the train (approx $28)
  • $ for show tickets ($15 adults, $10 children)
  • $ for overpriced food items at the chocolate show
  • A way to transport said overpriced food items home with you
  • Lunch or $ for lunch (assuming we don't get our fill at the show)

We'll be doing the usual two minute bike check in Cold Spring but please do your own at home before you leave.  It is better to discover any problems in the city that in Cold Spring.

You might want to buy your own ticket online before the show in case there is a line.
