Get Spooked: Amityville Horror House Ride

Halloween Edition
Halloween Edition
Saturday, October 31, 2015 - 09:00

This Halloween, go on a ride that might leave you shaking in your saddle. We start at the entrance to Linden Hill Methodist Cemetery at 323 Woodward Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens. You can get there by bike or by subway, L to Dekalb Ave, or the M to Forrest Ave and a quick walk/ride to the start. The enterance is at the intersection of Dekalb Ave and Woodward Ave, we will meet at the gates.

The Linden Hill Methodist Cemetery was founded in 1842. From there we will bike to Amityville, LI, where we will gawk at the innocent looking house of 112 Ocean Avenue, where 6 family members were executed on November 13, 1972.  The house has been considered haunted since (http://www.amityvillemurders.com/). On the way, we will enjoy some city riding and a lot of suburbia with yards and houses decorated for Halloween.

Lunch is at about 29 mile.  Make sure you bring snacks to hold you over until we get there.  Warm mac & cheese, burgers and other good foods are awaiting us at The Good Life in Massapequa. (http://thegoodlifeny.com/). The ride ends at the LIRR Massapequa Park train station where we will catch the LIRR back to city. We will buy tickets at the station and you can select to get off at Jamaica Bay station, Penn Station or Atlantic Terminal via transfer.

With the days getting shorter we start at 9am, please be on time as we will leave no later than 9:15am. It’s a moderate ride just under 40 miles through Queens and Long Island with an average speed of 12-15 mphs. Keep in mind that the roads in Queens are a bit rough with a few potholes: hybrid, mountain and touring bikes are strongly encouraged.

Even though it’s fall please bring 2 water bottles

Snacks to hold you over until lunch

A spare tube (or 2)

Bungee cords for the bicycles on the LIRR.

$ for lunch & train back

Please also remember your Metro-North/LIRR bicycle pass
