Train in some shade, a fresh breeze in the Huguenots Country Side

Poughkeepsie to New Paltz Loop
Poughkeepsie to New Paltz Loop
Sunday, August 2, 2015 - 07:30

Enjoy the spectacular views when crossing the Hudson River to New Palz.  Upstate roads with little traffic and stop signs, shaded roads and small inclines.  Get a fresh breeze cycling down the very small inclines (1,400 elevation gain on 40miles).

We have lunch at P&Gs (http://www.pandgs.com/) in New Palz, which started as a small settlement by French Huguenots. If we have time we can stop the historic settlement that preserved the buildings and history. Fun fact: One of the Huguenots Louis DuBois took refugee in a small town called Mannheim, Germany, that is about 12 km from a small town where one of the ride leaders grew up.  Trivia question: Who of the two leaders grew up there?

This ride is normally listed as a Spring Training Ride.  It is a great ride if you just recently started riding outside the city and what to get into a cycling routine. We will take it easy with an average speed will be 14-16 mph on road and hybrid bikes.

Bring 2 backup tubes, Metro-North Bike Pass (you can buy it at Grand Central), bungee cord to tie your bike in the train, small lock, and cash for lunch.

Meeting time is 7:30 am at Grand Central (with your ticket to Poughkeepsie in your hand) to board the 7:43 am train to Poughkeepsie.  You can also board the train at 125 Street. Please, notify any of the leaders to let us know if you are planning to do that.
