The high for Sunday, 2/15, doesn't look to be above 20 degrees. That does not make for a festive occasion.  We'll make a call by Thursday to cancel.

Update, 2/11: "All the forecasters agree that the coldest weather of the season, actually the coldest weather in more than a decade, will arrive Saturday night and last through Monday. Sunday's high will be in the mid teens and we could challenge 1888's record low of one degree on Monday morning." -- from Gothamist.

Update, 2/13: It doesn't get any better. NOAA: "Very windy and cold with highs around 17. Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Chance of snow 30 percent. Wind chill values as low as 12 below."

Calling all Presidents -- past, future, and interred. What a fun time we'll have on this blustery mid-February holiday weekend, too. On this ride, each president (or the ones who show) will lead a leg of the ride, and  at the end of that leg, at a rest stop, will be toasted -- or roasted. Figure on, say, four stops, four toasts, zero roasts, along an easy 14-mile route. We touch on three boroughs -- Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn -- so there is no excuse for NOT joining in on the festivities. Oh, and there are Lincoln and Washington, as well as Obama, to toast. And should your culinary tastes vary, some of the stops include: Rockaway Brewery, Dirck the Norseman, Brooklyn Roast, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, Steve's Key Lime Pie, and, of course the cheapest $5.99 Swedish meatball lunch special ever -- at IKEA. (Late-Breaking News: Just heard that a Swedish vegan version of those balls will be available soon, but probably not in time for our visit.)

We meet up at Bridgemarket Plaza at 11AM, on First Avenue at 60 Street, at the entrance to the 59th Street Bridge.Ride ends at IKEA, in Red Hook, and where some of us, who are returning to Manhattan, will take the free shuttle ferry. to Pier 11 in lower Manhattan.
