RIDE CHANGES: START TIME MOVED EARLIER TO 9AM, PLUS ROUTE WILL BE SHORTENED/ALTERED IN EVENT OF AFTERNOON RAIN (METRONORTH RR BACK FROM YONKERS). CUE AVAILABLE TO REGISTERED RIDERS. PROMPT START SO USE RESTROOM FACILITIES @ RSD PARK BEFORE START.
We're not going far . . . but well worth it for the beauty and uniqueness.
Ride meanders north thru Fieldston/Riverdale. We'll briefly bike tour part of the Untermyer Gardens (their imposing Temple of Love garden folly overlooking the Hudson); then on to the "Peacock & Beauty in Art" exhibit plus some Hudson River paintings and local area historic photographs at the Hudson River Museum. [SEE: NYTimes' article for more info http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/02/nyregion/a-review-of-strut-the-peacock... ].
It's the last day for the gorgeous peacocks art exhibit . . . so . . . vamanos !
After that we'll skirt the waterfront as we bike southward, stopping for a light, local nosh at waterfront area cafe before returning to NYC.
START: West side of Riverside Drive, just north of Grants Tomb, on sidewalk nearest to park restrooms. Ride leaves PROMPTLY; so do be there ready to depart on time.
BRING: Sense of adventure. Hybrids or mountain bikes fine; road bikes OK (all paved roads). Lock/chain (must be able to lock up bikes, so don't bring your fave $10k steed). $ for Hudson River museum entry ($6/4) and snack/refreshment stop, and possible RR ride back. Tubes & tire changing capacity; hydration and on-bike refreshments as needed.
Estimated return 3:30PM-ish. Bails or quick return possible via NYC subway (Van Cortland/Bway/242nd St.) or MetroNorth (Yonkers, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Marble Hill) so BYO MTA permit and/or subway card, in case.
Cross listed NYCC. Ride as a group;no point/drop/sweep. Cue sheet (print/bring!) provided in advance to registered riders.
