go dutch

Sunday, November 9, 2014 - 09:15

The Dutch were the Europeans who settled Brooklyn and there are still some very old homes, many of them of Dutch farmhouse origin scattered throughout the Borough. We will go by a number of them, dating from the 1600's or 1700's or 1800's. Some of them are parks or museums, but many are still in use with various "upgrades" (if you can call bad siding an upgrade). Some of the homes look great, and some, well they look dumpy. Ride includes some cool Brooklyn neighborhoods. And since we are in Brooklyn, we also have the opportunity for some good food stops. Early in the ride you will have an opportunity to pick up a quick snack/late breakfast at the wonderful Grimalid's bakery (ah those blueberry crumb things). Lunch is likely at the ever popular Mill Basin Kosher Deli. Bring lock, hydration, money for food or snacks, an upbeat and inquisitive attitude and a friend who speaks Dutch - though we will ask Mel to perform his translation services :). The ride will be at a steady, but moderate, urban touring pace.
