Newark to Sandy Hook

Friday, August 23, 2013 - 08:30

Clinching ride of series, in which the first destination was Sandy Hook and will now conclude at Sandy Hook. We’ll start from a railroad station in Newark, riding to towns in Essex, Union, Morris, Middlesex and Monmouth counties. There will be long stretches, rolling terrain, plus some busy traffic. Be prepared to ride in potentially hot weather. Take precautions. We be going over the Victory Bridge, a memorial to American WWI veterans. Lunch at the 35 mile mark, at Matawan, with a choice of Pizza or Chinese food. Then ride the featured rustic and nearly traffic-free 10-mile Henry Hudson Trail, with some subtle passages, which ends at Leonardo. We’ll go to greenway extensions at Atlantic Highlands into the town of Highlands before we cross a (HILLY) bridge to Sandy Hook. Ride is concluded near the ferry terminal at the Sandy Hook Post Chapel. Current 5BBC members who finish the previous four Turtles rides as well as this ride, will be awarded a unique cycling commendation. Possible finish time is 17:00 (5:00 PM, but no guarantees, baby). Bring $ for lunch, $25 for Seastreak return ferry, wear liberal amounts of sunscreen, two water bottles or a hydration pack. Suggest bringing a camera to remember the moments.
