Advance Spring Training Series
Primary tabs

The Advance Spring Training Series is a collection of rides intended to get you ready for the summer. The rides start out short and gradually increase in distance and pace each week. If you consider yourself a competent rider who enjoys riding in the comfort of a small group that complements one another, these excursions are ideal for you. Each ride will be between 14 and 16 miles per hour. It won't be much faster than the slowest rider in the bunch can endure. As long as you can maintain 14 mph on the flats you will not be left behind. On an advance ride we bike as a group. We typically ride and turn together when biking long distances. The point-drop-sweep technique will be used sparingly. Compression stops will be used on occasion to keep cyclists together.
Please note there will not be any make-up rain dates. If a ride is canceled due to bad weather, we urge our riders to ride during the week in preparation for the next ride date. Ride destinations are subject to change. Check your email and the group website at least 2 hours before the scheduled meetup time for any changes or delays. Please pack the usual cycle accessories, such as spare tubes, tools for changing a flat tire, hydration, and bike food. Helmets are mandatory at all times.
Port Jefferson, LI
You got this!! This is a one-way ride through the rolling hills of the North Fork, ending at the Port Jefferson LIRR station. We will be traveling through the towns of Syosset, Kings Park, Smithtown, St. James and Stony Brook. The rolling hills along the Nissequogue River will make for a very good scenic and challenging ride. Elevation is estimated at 2,500 with the highest grade of 8.1% according to RWGPS. This is a point-to-point ride meaning it will start at one location but end at another. With that said, we will meet at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows, Queens. If arriving by train please check the LIRR schedule for trains arriving at Hollis Station. The park is a quick 2 miles away. Please give yourselves enough time to arrive to the park by the start time. There are restrooms in the immediate vicnity. We are taking the LIRR back from Port Jefferson. Additional information about the ride including return trip time schedules will be emailed to all registrants.
This is the final ride in our 6 part series. We hope you have enjoyed the series, gained some experience, and made new friends. As a bonus we will be adding a 62 mile ride to Centre Island to test our training. Date TBD.
