Yaya's Bakery - Astoria

Yaya's Bakery under the el in Astoria is one of those places that don't show up in the tourist guidebooks.  It is a tradional Greek bakery where you can have the savory like spanakopita, prasopita, or kreatopita.  Or screw the calories and get some tradional pastries like galaktoboureka, kataifi or baklava.  Sweet or savory [or both] - its your choice.  We will be taking the food around the corner and eat in Athens Square - soaking up the Astoria ambiance.

The route takes us up through Williamsburg and the soft industrial underbelly of Greenpoint.  We will stop at the site of the old Penny Bridge.  This was the first bridge over the creek.  We take the back door to the K Bridge up a new bike trail and the Under the K Bridge Park.  From there its through Sunnyside and then Yayas in Astoria.  We come back down Crescent Street Trail and the LIC Waterfront.  Then cross the Pulaski Bridge and back down the Brooklyn Waterfront and the Hipster Highway.

The ride is 21 miles long, and other than the bridges it is fairly flat.  We will be keeping a Happy Face Ride / No Dawdlikng pace.  This means that we will be riding at a comfortable 10 MPH or so pace,   The ride starts at Grand Army Plaza and the return is either to Grand Army Plaza or a Brewery in Park Slope.  That may be a game day or group decision.
